Welcome to Westermains Bowling Club website.
The club was founded on July 9th 1853 after a few meetings had been held with like-minded individuals wishing to set up a club. The history of the club is long and we have had a degree of success over the years. Westermains Bowling Club celebrated its sesquicentenary (150th Anniversary) in 2003. A comprehensive book was produced and copies can be seen in the Kirkintilloch Public Library.
The club is located in the town of Kirkintilloch which is about eight miles north east of Glasgow.
The bowling club is affiliated to Bowls Scotland and plays in the national competitions run by them. We also play in County competitions run by Dumbartonshire Bowling Association and Dumbartonshire Women’s Bowling Association, West of Scotland Women’s Bowling Association, and local district competitions in the Kirkintilloch and District Bowling Association for both ladies and gents.
This year 2018 our season begins with the official club opening on April 7th. Our club President this year is Andrew Byron and it is hoped that we will have an enjoyable and successful year under Andrew’s leadership. His Vice President is Scott Wilson. Our Ladies will have their Invitation Opening on Tuesday 10th April at 2.00pm, and the Gents Invitational Opening is on Saturday 14th April.
We have vacancies for new members and would welcome applications for membership. To register an interest in joining, it is best to contact our club secretary Jean Macmillan by writing to her c/o the Club, Westermains Bowling Club, Bellfield Road, Kirkintilloch, Glasgow G66 1DT, or telephone the club on 0141-775-1380. We are a friendly bunch and welcome experienced and novice bowlers. Coaching will be available and we can easily arrange a come and try experience for anyone.
